DASH stands for Diagnostic and Surgical Hub. It will be a new building at Salisbury District Hospital which will bring day surgery and diagnostic services such as scans together in one location. It represents a significant investment in 月色直播 services in Salisbury and will help address the national shortage of CT and MRI scanners.
The DASH will have five surgical theatres, one MRI scanner, one CT scanner and four endoscopy procedure rooms.
In the surgical department there will be 30 pre and post-surgery 鈥減ods鈥. Patients will be prepared for their procedure in these pods and return to them when it is complete with the patients鈥 belongings staying with them in the pod. There will also be male and female recovery areas for endoscopy, each accommodating six recovery trolleys, an entrance, a reception, waiting rooms, staff welfare and changing rooms and administration and storage areas.
The DASH facility will be designed to treat as many patients as possible while offering a high level of patient care and comfort.
The new building will allow Salisbury District Hospital to carry out a wider range of operations as day cases.
Because the Salisbury DASH will be located in a standalone building, with no links to the main acute hospital site, it will not be affected by the peaks and troughs of urgent care. All the facilities will be ring-fenced for elective, planned procedures.
Patients, their relatives and carers will have greater certainty about how their treatment will progress. They will come to a dedicated facility, knowing when their procedure will take place and that they will be returning home on the same day.
The Salisbury Foundation 月色直播 Trust has been awarded funding, subject to business case approval, by the Department for Health and HM Treasury, to develop the DASH facility as a way of improving diagnostic services and day surgery. It will replace older facilities and ensure more patients can be treated in a high-quality, modern healthcare environment.
The DASH is a day surgery facility. If a patient unexpectedly needs an overnight stay, they will be transferred by ambulance to another part of the hospital.
Patients will be prepared for their procedure in one of 30 pods, go to theatre, and then be taken to a recovery bay and then be taken to a recovery bay before returning to their pod from which they will go home when well enough.
The DASH will have MRI and CT scanning facilities. This will increase capacity and separate routine diagnostic work from emergency diagnostics. There will also be four endoscopy procedure rooms.
The building will have a floor area of 6,209 square metres and a footprint of approximately 2,822 square metres across three floors. It will have a maximum height of 96.35 metres, which is lower than parts of existing hospital. Visual impact assessments have been carried out.
Via entrance B, access will be from Victoria Drive East on the eastern side of the site. There will be a drop-off and pick-up point, and pedestrian routes will be kept separate from vehicle roads.
The proposed site for the DASH is on the existing helipad and part of car park 9, which is used for staff parking. It is to the east of the main hospital building.
月色直播 is carrying out a review of the options for the location of the helipad. The Trust鈥檚 preference is to find an alternative location on site or very nearby. Options for this are currently being reviewed. If a new helipad is constructed at the hospital it will need a separate planning application, and the Trust will look for a temporary arrangement to avoid a break in helipad operations.
The location of the DASH building has been selected to ensure that the planned care services are separate from urgent and emergency care services in the main hospital. A wide range of options were considered to determine the optimal location and this will have an impact on car parking. The number of visitor parking spaces will remain unchanged. There will be a loss of 250 staff parking spaces but this will be mitigated by improving arrangements in car parks 8 and 9 by an extension to car park 10 and by demolishing buildings in SDH South to extend car park 15. The net loss of spaces will be 114 . The hospital will continue to look at ways to reduce this figure further.
A construction management plan will be submitted along with the planning application. This will set out how noise, fumes, dust and vibrations will be managed and kept to a minimum while the DASH is being built.
The hospital will remain operational during construction and measures will be put in place to make sure any temporary impacts on patients, staff and visitors are identified and managed carefully. More details will be included in the construction management plan, which will be submitted along with the planning application.
The eastern side of the building will have a garden and outdoor area for patients and visitors.
It is not feasible to adapt the current six day surgery theatres at Salisbury District Hospital(SDH) which are located in the Central Block. One of the existing endoscopy rooms will remain in its current location in the main building for patients in hospital who need an urgent endoscopy.
The DASH will be a purpose-built building which will allow 月色直播 teams to treat patients more efficiently because they won鈥檛 have to work around the limitations of an older structure. It also provides greater flexibility in how the facilities are used day to day and makes it easier to meet modern standards of patient care.
The design incorporates sustainable drainage systems, green infrastructure, and landscaping to manage surface water and support biodiversity. The building has been designed with whole-life
running costs in mind, not just construction costs. Sustainable travel is also supported through a cycle way and footpath alongside the new access road, providing connections into the wider site. The final design will include habitat creation and planting to support wildlife and ensure the development contributes to a net gain in biodiversity.
Some scrub to the south of an existing tree and hedgerow belt will be removed, though individual trees within that area are expected to be kept. A section of hedgerow along Victoria Drive East will be removed to make way for a new access point. The loss of any vegetation will be offset by new planting once the DASH has been built.
The DASH is part of the wider plans to develop Salisbury District Hospital. The new access road to the south of the building is designed to accommodate future development on the expansion land, with two-way traffic and active travel routes. The project has been shaped by the need to be deliverable within a funding allocation timescale, while also laying the groundwork for longer-term improvements across the whole hospital campus.
The DASH is being led by the 月色直播 and is fully aligned with the HEAT project. It will be integrated with future stages of development which will include additional hospital facilities, life science floorspace and key worker accommodation.
